Position Summary: The interdisciplinary Mathematical, Computational
and Systems Biology graduate programs are administered within the
Center for Complex Biological Systems, an Organized Research Unit.
In close collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences. The
goal of UCI's program in Mathematical, Computational and Systems
Biology (MCSB) is to provide students from a variety of educational
backgrounds with Ph.D. training suitable for research careers in
the field of Systems Biology. The program emphasizes in-depth
classroom study, interdisciplinary research rotations and
individualized advising. Using skills as a seasoned, experienced
student services professional, provides the full range of student
services for the Mathematical, Computational, and Systems Biology
graduate program within the School of Biological Sciences.
Independently advises students and resolves student
services-related issues on the full range of academic issues
inherent within the program. Advises faculty and management on a
variety of student issues. Works with the program and the school's
management to recommend changes to policies, practices, and
procedures. Guidance on issues requiring in-depth knowledge of
specialized programs is provided by offices specializing in those
fields, e.g., the financial aid office, graduate division, or
student learning center, OR by the chair / dean and faculty of the
department / school / college. Administers funds for student
programs. Initiates transactions on UC-specific systems as
needed.

- $66,350 within full salary range $56,200.00 - $96,800.00 (Annual
Salary)
Required: Three years previous working knowledge of administration
policies, procedures and practices, preferably at an academic
institution.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent
experience / training. Solid verbal and written communication
skills. Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability
to work with diverse populations. Ability in problem identification
and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving,
identifying measures of system performance and the actions to
improve performance. Proficient in ability to use discretion and
maintain all confidentiality. Demonstrates ability to analyze,
research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention
to detail. Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding
timeframes.
Preferred: Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and
knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures
involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood
and consequences. Knowledge of complex U.S. visa and immigration
procedures, compliance issues, and employment eligibility /
authorization for international students and scholars.
