Job Description:
Position Description: Under the direct supervision of the Clinic
Administrator/Supervisor, the Medical Assistant is a vital member
of our care team, responsible for providing essential clinical
support. This position primarily assists in delivering direct
patient care within the regulatory scope of practice. The Medical
Assistant supports healthcare providers by preparing examination
rooms and documenting patient information, ensuring smooth
operations and optimal patient experiences. This position also
upholds patient confidentiality, adheres to regulatory standards,
and maintains the highest level of professionalism in healthcare
delivery. Principal Responsibilities: Performs routine
(noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed
healthcare personnel, following established clinic policies and
procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and
responsibilities. Collects and records patient data including
height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood
pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurement, according to
established policies and procedures. Performs lab tests, including
finger sticks, after receiving appropriate training and
verification of competency. Administers immunizations and
medications per provider's order after a licensed healthcare
professional verifies the correct medication and dosage. Performs
venipuncture and PPD skin placements, documents the measurement of
the PPD skin test, and reports this information directly to the
provider or Registered Nurse. Applies and removes bandages and
dressings. Provides fluoride varnish treatment to patients ages 1
month to 20 years during wellness or medical visits, following
approved protocols to prevent dental caries and support preventive
health efforts. Applies principles of aseptic technique and
infection control in accordance with established policies and
procedures. Provides basic health information and education to
patients following established protocols. Prepares examination
rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
Accurately documents patient information, medical history, and
treatment plans in electronic health record (EHR) systems. Assists
with patient education regarding medications, treatments, and
follow-up care. Coordinates referrals to specialists and diagnostic
testing as needed. Ensures compliance with infection control
protocols and maintains a safe, clean environment. Assists with
administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering
phones, and verifying insurance information. Accurately files
patients’ lab results, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents
after provider review and sign-off. Participates in staff meetings,
including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and
in-service training. Participates in all safety programs, which may
include assignment to an emergency response team. Administer
topical fluoride varnish treatment. Complete required screening
tools. Log in to Cozeva. Review what the patient is due for,
regarding HEDIS measures. Check daily Rusetta tank. Adhere to all
organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory
requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and
visitors. Participate in required safety and compliance trainings
and apply learned practices in daily work activities. Identify,
report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards
in the workplace. Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and
responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory
standards. Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational
health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the
role. Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and
regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients,
staff, and visitors. Participate in required safety and compliance
trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents,
or hazards in the workplace. Use equipment, tools, and supplies
safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and
regulatory standards. Maintain awareness of infection control,
occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures
appropriate to the role. Performs other duties and tasks as
required or assigned. Participate in JWCH’s customer service
training called AIDET on an annual basis. Demonstrate an
understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration,
Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team
discussions. Utilize the AIDET communication framework to
communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces
patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves
clinical outcomes. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a
current MA certificate Minimum of 2 years of experience working as
a Medical Assistant Verification of appropriate hours in approved
Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture Current BLS
certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red
Cross Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the
ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare
professionals. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities,
and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Two years’
experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred Must be willing to
travel to other sites located in Palmdale if needed Bilingual
(English/Spanish) preferred. *All JWCH, Wesley Health Centers
