Referral Coordinator- Gastroenterology Office General Summary: A non-exempt medical office position responsible for all referrals for the medical offices in the market Essential Job Responsibilities: 1.Process patient referrals for the practices in the market2. Coordinate scheduling of office visits for the referred patient3. Assist patient with finding resources that accept the various insurances 4. Obtains pre-authorization from payers.5. Set up referring providers in the Electronic SystemQualifications: Education: High school diploma/GED with completion or a medical assisting or medical office assistant program preferred.Certification: Prefer healthcare management/administration or Medical Assistant certification.Experience: Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience working in a medical office setting Performance Requirements: Knowledge:1. Knowledge of insurance verification process2. Knowledge of specific Insurances such as Medicare and Tricare Prime3. Knowledge of documentation required for physician appointments.4. Knowledge of Electronic Health Systems5. Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes6. Knowledge of the policies and procedures of a clinic sufficient to provide effective patient care.Skills: 1. Skill in multi-tasking.2. Skill in customer service.3. Skill in computer hardware and software use.4. Skill in verbal and written communication.5. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.6.
